About Kerry
Kerry Plowright graduated from Officer Cadet School Portsea in 1979 and was commissioned into the New Zealand Army. After military service and recovery from cancer, he farmed a large irrigated mixed-cropping property in central Queensland.
In the early 1990s Kerry became Executive Director of EarthTrust South Pacific. Immediately following the first Gulf War in 1991, he led a team into Kuwait to recover and deploy oil booms at vulnerable estuaries and coastal entrances, helping protect birds, marine life and sensitive habitat from oil contamination. His wider environmental work included whale and wildlife rescue, tree planting, habitat regeneration, weed eradication and public education.
Kerry founded and published New Zealand Green Magazine, a four-colour environmental publication distributed to more than 60,000 readers. He also developed and piloted the Hector Protector, a float-equipped microlight camera platform used to record GPS-linked oblique imagery of New Zealand's coastline for conservation and public education.
In 1995 Kerry founded Australian Windows Publishing. The publishing and prepress business evolved into a software company employing more than 30 people. Its ezimerchant ecommerce platform won the Nine Network Small Business Show's Best Internet Application award in 2000 and a Consensus Software Award in 2001.
Kerry founded the Early Warning Network in 2006 and led development of its Geographic Notification and Information System, combining mapped hazard intelligence with location-based, multi-channel warnings. The service grew to support councils, insurers, utilities, transport operators and other organisations exposed to severe weather and natural hazards.
He later founded and led Aeeris Limited, which listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under ASX:AER. Aeeris expanded the warning network into hazard intelligence, historical risk analytics and location-specific climate-risk services.
Kerry is now writing the technology thriller Hammer and developing PageSlammer as a direct publishing system for searchable, media-rich ideas, stories and commercial pages.
